JUMEAUX is a duo recording act I formed with my exceptionally talented singer/songwriter cousin Libby Lavella.

For many years we'd been looking for excuses to write and collaborate together. But with Libby living in Los Angeles and me in Paris, it was never going to be as easy as just getting together from time to time to make music. 

Some time around 2007, Libs was talking to me about a friend of hers, a fantastic author called Michael Scott. I'd met him briefly on a trip to LA once, and found him fascinating. Anyway, Libby was really excited about his young adult fiction series published by Random House, The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel and so I wasted no time and got my hands on a copy of the first volume. Obviously I couldn't put it down and was already asking Michael to send me a copy of the second book before I'd even finished the first. I wasn't surprised when I found out that pretty much every volume in this series has kicked off in the New York Times bestseller list.

So Libby had been talking to Michael about an interesting idea he'd had. He loved her voice and was really intrigued about the possibility of having a theme song written and recorded about Nicholas Flamel, to use on the website for the book. Don't forget, we're talking 2007 here, so there was something new and pioneering about the idea back in those times.

Libby and I talked about it and thought it could be a really interesting and challenging creative project for us. Taking the idea a little further, we thought it would be great to write themes not just for one, but for all of the main characters in the books. Or even to take central concepts and storytelling elements from the books and make music about these ideas too. It would be something like writing a film score, but with no moving picture. And that's how JUMEAUX was born.

The first song we wrote and recorded was called Carry My Voice, an ode to the eternal love between Nicholas Flamel and his wife Perenelle. It went live on the website for the book in 2008 and was an instant hit with the fans, with over 120,000 downloads.

Over the following years, Libby and I got together many more times to write and record more songs. Mostly this was through virtual transatlantic internet ping pong. But Libby also came to Paris to write and record with me in the studios of my friend and long-time collaborator in film scoring, Nathaniel Méchaly.

We've made a number of SONGS FOR FLAMEL now, and we're continuing to make them whenever we can find time in our schedules. We've also made our own music videos for THIS WAY FOREVER and FIND THE WORDS.
