With a (not at all unpleasant) sense of déjà vu, I'm thrilled to be able to congratulate composer, colleague and friend Nathaniel Méchaly for his BMI Award for the Score of Taken 3!
I've had the fortune of working on all three of the films in the Taken franchise with Nathaniel, and it's a satisfying end to the trilogy to see him pick up a third gong after already collecting BMI's for the previous two films.
With each new chapter in the franchise, we really worked hard to push our limits to make the music for each of the films as exciting and fun as we could. The Taken movies are all about guilt-free pleasure, the kind of entertainment which you just surrender yourself to and enjoy. So we kinda had a similar approach ourselves in making the music. Despite the constraints and the perceived pigeonhole rules of making a big studio action movie score, we went into each and every one of them ready to break a rule or two. But most of all, we just surrendered ourselves to the experience of making rollicking action movie music. Hopefully the fun and experimentation that we threw into the work came through the screen and played its part in giving audiences around the world a fun night out.
Congratulations, Nath! It was a fun couple of years, even if coming home from the castle in Normandy felt like returning to Earth from a trip to Mars (don't ask...)
Looking forward to being able to take everything we learned to another action joyride some time soon. Hopefully this time with spaceships!
