A busy start to the year, or probably more accurately - a busy continuation from the end of 2015...
Just upon completion of the new original Canal+ Series MIDNIGHT SUN which I worked on under composer NATHANIEL MÉCHALY, we were thrilled to hear that it won the public jury prize at Europe's largest festival dedicated to TV series - Sériemania 2016. Created and directed by Bjørn Stein and Måns Mårlind (creators of the hugely popular series THE BRIDGE), it's a captivating dark-edged police investigation drama breathtakingly shot in the north of Sweden, with Nathaniel's stunning music to match. The series has since gone on to be sold to over 65 countries worldwide, and topped THE BRIDGE in ratings in its initial launch in Sweden.
To switch things up, in parallel I also worked as arranger on the original score for MA FAMILLE T'ADORE DÉJÀ, the upcoming romantic comedy from director Jérôme Commandeur starring Arthur Dupont, with composers MICHAEL TORDJMAN and MAXIME DESPREZ.
I was also excited to work on my first collaboration with english composer CHRISTOPHER SLASKI on his lilting and lighthearted score for the MORE FOR YOU advertising campaign for 02 mobile. I was introduced to Christopher via my work with composer Pierre Adenot and it didn't take long to recognise a kindred spirit. Looking forward to more collaborations in the future.
And just to keep things interesting, hot on the heels of delivering the score for the Australian feature film JOE CINQUE'S CONSOLATION with director SOTIRIS DOUNOUKOS, I was catapulted back to the familiar territory of the action movie genre again. I shared original arrangement and additional score duties with composer NATHANIEL MÉCHALY and LIONEL PRIVAT for STRATTON: FIRST INTO ACTION, directed by SIMON WEST and starring DOMINIC COOPER.
An incredibly challenging start to the year with no weekends to speak of. But on a sobering note, I was deeply saddened to hear recently of the loss of our music supervisor on STRATTON. A legend in the film music world, he was responsible for one of the film scores that inspired me to pursue a career as a film composer: DUNE. RIP, Gilbert Marouani.
